Pink computer

Maybe it’s the shade or hue of pink that it is, but I feel the gag reflex going to work every time I look at it. Get this, the url you go to, to buy one of these, pinkcomputer.co.uk, that’s hilarious to me.

s-rd-world

Other than being obnoxiously pink, it also has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, a DVD burner, 150GB HDD, and 6 USB ports. So, its nothing special, but its respectable and is a good start for the female geek that wants to get into computer building, since you could start by adding graphics, sound, and TV Tuner cards as well as some more hard drive space.

Good luck finding matching Pink peripherals and monitors and speakers, as I’d hope that any of those that are pink, are a better color of pink. You can get one for £409 or about $800. [ss]

Sony offers up new skins Vaio T series

Sony is bumping the processor speed for their T series Vaio’s from 1.06GHz to 1.2GHz. On top of that, from Sony Vaio Style Japan you’ll be able to get some new skins for your notebook.

s-rd-world

A couple of the skins look fairly professional, kind of like nice wallpaper, while the other two offer some actual art for the back of your notebook. The extra 140MHz on the processor speed isn’t that big of a deal, but it might be noticeable when you try and multi-task on your notebook.

The new Vaio T series notebooks with these skins are selling for $1583 in Japan. Of course the regular colors will still be available as well. [akihabaranews]

Windows 7

s-rd-world

There's no telling how legitimate these shots might be, and it's quite clear that these screens won't be giving us any juicy details about Windows 7 anytime soon, but we couldn't pass on images that purport to be the first from a super-secret test build of Windows 7 seeded to "key partners." So, anything to see here? Not that we can tell, from the looks of things we're looking at a copy of Vista with the name "Windows 7 Ultimate" tacked on, but there's no telling what's happening under the hood. We know we can't wait to pay another few hundred dollars for a barely noticeable upgrade to Vista that will re-break all driver support, how about you?

Hcl in X & Y

So there are two different low cost laptops that have been released in India by a company called HCL, I’ve never heard of them before now, so don’t feel bad if you haven’t either. Regardless they both look pretty nice for cheap notebooks, but I only have the price for the X series model
which is about Rs 13,999. [hcl x]

s-rd-world

The X series notebook looks a lot like and Intel Classmate PC, but rebranded, it has an Intel 915GMS chipset coupled with a Celeron ULV 353 processor running at 900MHz. it runs Linux and has half a gig of RAM, and 2 gigs of flash storage, which may or may not be expandable, a 2-in-1 card reader, a pair of USB ports, built in speakers, WiFi in the b/g flavors, and a 6-cell battery that should last about 4 hours. Oh, and it only weight 1.44 kilograms with its 7-inch 800×400 color LCD

s-rd-world

The Y series model has the A110 800MHz processor from Intel and a 945GU Express chipset from the same. It also has 1GB of RAM, an 80GB HDD, 3-in-1 card reader, a pair of USB ports, 1.3MP webcam, WiFi in the same b/g flavors, a 7-inch 1024×600 touchscreen LCD, and runs Vista Home Premium (barely, if I had to guess). It weighs even less than the other model at 960 grams, and has a UMPC/tablet look about it, its also my personal favorite of the two, price Rs 29,999. [hcl y]

Feacher-xp=Vista

I call it XP features that are lost in Vista.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

However, Microsoft refer to many of these XP items as 'deprecated' in Vista. The term deprecated carries with it the nuance that the old feature has been superseded by a newer feature. For example, there is an element of truth that the job of the old XP 'Run Command' has been incorporated in Vista's Start Search.Ten XP Features which can legitimately be called 'deprecated' in Vista

Run Box / Command - Solution either use Start Search, or Windows Key +r.

Documents and Settings - C:\users.

Standby - Gone replaced by a better 'Sleep'. Also hibernate.

Properties, replaced by Personalize. For example, in Vista if you right-click the Desktop you see 'Personalize' and not properties.

Log Off Confirmation. Vista no longer asks for confirmation when you select 'Log Off', or even 'Shutdown' if you configure it. The assumption is that we all know what we are doing and therefore don't need another dialog box.

Explorer Menu (File....Edit....Tools) - Just press the Alt key.

Vista does not remember Explorer setting - View Menu ---> Apply to all folders.

Add or Remove Programs - Control Panel --> Programs'Turn Windows features on or off'.

Ctrl Windows Key +f does not launch the regular Search, but Active Directory's 'Find'.

Boot.ini replaced by bcdedit. (Boot Configuration Data)
New Microsoft Zune
