Helio+Opera

Thanks to the community surrounding Helio and their Ocean smartphone the push for the Opera Mini browser has made it official. This is great news for lots of people, Ocean owners, Helio, and Opera.

s-rd-world

Why is this good news for Opera? Well it’s the first mobile device to officially support the Opera browser, and it’s a hell of a device to test it out on. You get the usual bookmark synchronization, Speed Dial for frequented sites, and a Personal Bar, as well as support for Java.

Now, it is currently only available for the Ocean, however, word from our friends at Helio is that this is just the start of a long relationship so future devices, and likely more of their current devices, are more and more likely to be receiving Opera Mini updates soon. Our friends at Helio weren’t kind enough to hook us up with any details of a possible new handset any time soon or anything like that, but I’m patient, so I can wait for now. [phonemag]

Mylo Widgets

Sony has finally created a site where they’ll be releasing widgets for the Mylo personal communicator. They started with 5 on the site for now, and they’ll be adding more, but the exciting part is that if you are feeling generous you can create your own and post them on the site too.

s-rd-world

Its more like a community effort, Sony will only release a few every so often to keep things going, but they are really depending on the community of Mylo COM-2 users to really get the ball rolling. Right now they have a world clock, calculator, calendar, and a couple others up, more as they come in from users like you.

Sadly though, they are only available for COM-2 owners, they won’t work on the COM-1. So, go get you some widgets, or start developing, click the via link to get to the Mylo Labs. [sony]

New Walkman MP3 players From Sony

They have Bluetooth, noise cancellation, a healthy-sized screen, and a 33 hour battery life at the bottom, 36 at the top. For video you get the 320×240 LCD display that can play video at up to 30 frames per second for up to 10 hours, or at the least 9.5 hours.

s-rd-world

They have FM tuners built in and varying size screens from 1.8” all the way up to 2.4-inches. As I mentioned, some of the players have Bluetooth built in which can be used to connect to a Bluetooth stereo, headset, you name it as long as it works with the A2DP profile.

They work with all the common media formats including MP3, WMA, AAC, PCM, JPEG, AVC, and MPEG-4. the pricing ranges greatly with the bottom of the line missing some of these nicer features and only having 4GB of storage for $150, all the way up to a 16GB model with everything running $320, there are a total of 7 new players in all and they all look amazing. Sony Bluetooth speaker

I have no idea how well this spherical Bluetooth speaker sounds, but it is by far way better looking than any other Bluetooth speaker I’ve seen, and these things were pretty popular on the CES show floor. Usually Bluetooth speakers are bland, competing on the fronts of thinness, battery power, and then overall sound seemingly the 3rd most important feature.

s-rd-world

If you don’t have an A2DP enabled device, there is also a 3.5mm input jack to plug in just about any audio device. This ball also has a built in rechargeable battery so you can leave it plugged in at home or disconnect and take it with you when you go to play ball or to the beach.

No word on price, but its coming out sometime this half of the year. I’ve been looking to get a Bluetooth speaker for on the go use sometime soon, maybe this will be the one if it sounds half as good as it looks.

Sharp RD-CMP2000R

s-rd-world

Sharp is releasing Sharp RD-CMP2000R, a Linux based mini PC. It looks like RD-CMP2000R is Zaurus that you can find in Japan. The RD-CMP2000R is equipped with QWERTY keyboard, 1.3MP camera, and swiveling color display. The bad news is, RD-CMP2000R can only be found in Korea. No pricing information available at this time. PDA server

How many people do you know that carry a dedicated PDA? Personally, I don’t know anyone that does. Everyone seems to have switched over to phones that can do it all for them. I guess there must still be a market for them because Seattle-based design firm Teague has released a concept for a new HP device.

s-rd-world

It seems to have a nice rugged appearance to it, which is always great. It appears to be designed as more of a datacenter diagnostic device than a standard PDA. “It visualizes and communicates problems related to HP servers and data centers, and works as a fully-integrated system to streamline day-to-day tasks.”

I’ve never worked in a datacenter, but I’ve spent my fair share of time in a server closet, and I could definitely see something like this coming in handy. Seems like others have the same idea, since it won the If Design Award at CeBit this year.

Aura Concept Phone

It’s a great life when you’re a concept phone designer as you can step out of the box and reality as we know it.
You can take the laws of physics and absolute limits of technological advancement and push them further.

s-rd-world

This is the far-out Aura concept phone which the complete service of the cell phone is a 3.9-inch touch screen, the sliding d-pad bar that can be positioned anywhere along the screen.
Would you believe in the 6mm thick shell fits microSD expansion, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, HSDPA and a magically revealed keyboard. [unwired view]

Samsung G600 in Pink

Samsung G600 in Pink - Valentines Gift

Are we shocked to see that Samsung are launching a pink G600 with the 5 megapixel camera in time for Valentines Day. I actually like the look of this phone, it brighter than the normal charcoal colour and wouldn’t mind having one of these myself.

s-rd-world

The new phone will be available in the Uk from January and you can get it from Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U, T Mobile, just a few to mention. The phone also has Bluetooth connection and a 2.2 inch LCD screen

Polymer Vision

Polymer Vision who are a Dutch company have released the worlds first cell phone which has a fold out diplay, which you can view emails, podcasts and text documents. The cell phone is called the “Readius” and is the size of a normal cell phone but has a 5” screens which folds out of the body of the phone.

s-rd-world

The makers of the Readius say, “You get the large display of e-reading, the super battery life of e-reading, and the high-end connectivity … and the form factor and weight of a mobile phone”.

You will be able to update any podcast or email account which you have subcribed to through the 3G Network. [inventorspot]

Customisable phone

This customisable face plate concept shown on a clamshell phone is all about user customisation.

s-rd-world

The grid structure holds colored pins to mimic precious jewels and can be used to create all kinds of designs and patterns in full pixelated isometric glory.
Just a concept at this stage, but looks like a fun way to make your phone your own...

LG Viewty Silver

Shortly after the news of the new silver edition of the LG Prada phone they are performing the same color change on the Viewty. The Viewty has sold over 550k units since its inception and that is apparently the reason they are launching a new color.

s-rd-world

They are calling it “Dark Silver” because “titanium” is boring, but other than the new color it still retains the 3-inch touchscreen, the same Prada UI (hopefully with the upgraded keyboard software though) and the HSDPA. However there is a new jog wheel which should give your BlackBerry thumb a little exercise.

The new silver edition should be selling for the same as the black model, and they are talking about bringing more colors to market. I agree with Chris Davies, a nice dark, metallic red would be an awesome color for this mobile phone as long as the UI was similarly colored. In case you were wondering, the Viewty is apparently selling for very close to the same price as the Prada phone, which is around $500.

Amtek iTablet

When Amtek are not taking the piss out of Gizmodo writers, they are usually busy cranking out tempting UMPCs. Their latest effort, the iTablet T221, packs in some great features, including a 12.1-inch LCD touchscreen (1024 x 768), Intel Core Duo (1.2Ghz), GMA 950 graphic chipset, 60GB HDD, 2GB RAM and supports 802.11a/b/g wireless networks.

s-rd-world

The UMPC will run Windows Vista, but there is no pricing or shipping information at present. Naturally, we would be excited, but our morbid obesity is so severe, we can no longer sense our emotions. Yeah Amtek, we know we are fat, but even we have feelings, you know. We'll go drown our sorrows in a high sugar content soda.

Windows Mobile 7

s-rd-world

InsideMicrosoft just got a gigantic scoop of Microsoft's Windows Mobile 7, due to be released in 2009. This isn't Windows Mobile 6.1—which we've seen leaks of recently—but the next full version of Windows Mobile that fixes a bunch of problems we've seen with the platform. The huge changes are multi-touch gestures (including flicking, swiping and drawing on the screen), motion gestures (shaking the phone), Windows Vista-like redesign of the entire UI, better finger-based navigation and a desktop-like Internet Explorer browser. It's totally amazing, and fixes a bunch of the complaints we had with the platform. InsideMicrosoft has the full details.[insidemobile]

HP iPaq 210

HP iPaq 210 PDA: lacks phone

s-rd-world

HP have released yet another new PDA, the iPaq 210 is just another PDA to add to the list as it has nothing special added to it. Hewlett Packard have not even bothered adding any phone features either, having said that I am sure that there are a number of people who are in the market for such a primitive PDA.
The HP iPac 210 has a 4-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 640, and uses a, Marvell PXAA310 CPU which has been clocked to run at 624MHz. The PDA has a mix of 256MB of Flash ROM and 128MB of SDRAM. As for connectivity, the iPac comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The PDA runs Windows Mobile 6 Classic and also comes installed with Windows Mobile Office. [gadget tell]

Phones from Toshiba

Three new phones from Toshiba coming soon

In order, there is the G910, G710, and G450. Sure, the 910 and 710 have keyboards which clearly mean they are smartphones, and thus interesting, but I kind of like the 450 the most out of all of them.[justamp]
